Hello lovelies!

The Oscars, those most craved for movie awards, were already given away to those who most deserve them with their outstanding contribution to cinema in 2013. Apart from the movies, the celebrity fashion and beauty looks are being discussed with passion all over the internet and I think this is the most natural thing to do after the Academy Awards reception :) So I cannot pass this major event without making a closer inspection of celebrities looks from manicure perspective. So welcome back to my Red carpet nails column where we discuss celebrity manicure and do some trend spotting.

If I had to choose one word to describe celebrity nails at the Oscars this year and I was not allowed to choose ‘boring’, I would say ‘classic’. All the glamour at the 2014 Academy Awards was saved for the spectacular dresses and gorgeous beauty looks so nails had to lay back and quietly wait for all this to pass in nudes, pastels and the classic reds :) These were the three categories all celebrity manicures at the 2014 Oscars can go to. Here, it was all documented on these buzzfeed.com photos and I am sure if you can take your eyes away the haute couture dresses and flawless beauty looks you will notice nails… somewhere… there.

Nude nails at the Oscars 2014
Sure, nudes and off-whites are a total nail trend for 2014 so actually the ladies who chose them made a somewhat trendy pick. Olivia Wilde, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Penelope Cruz, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Jessica Biel were some of the celebrities who went for the natural look.

Shy pastel shades at the 2014 Academy Awards
Pastel shades are another key nail trend for 2014 so some celebrities chose pretty pastels for their nails at the 2014 Academy Awards reception. Jada Pinkett Smith, Julia Roberts, Olga Kurylenko and Robin Roberts were some of the ladies who went for pastel manicure for the big event.

Classic red and burgundy nails at the 2014 Oscars
Classic red is always a safe choice when it comes to nails for a formal occasion. If you do not want to play it safe but  still want to stay in the classy feel, burgundy is an option too. Anna Kendrick, Kerry Washington, Emma Watson, Jennifer Garner and June Squib were some of the celebrities who chose the reds for the Oscars.

There were some exceptions of the categories above like for example Charlize Teron and Sandra Bullock’s black nails but it was pretty much it.

The stiletto nails
Regarding nails shape, stiletto nails are still a top trend and it is not so hard to guess why, they are absolutely gorgeous! Lady gaga, Anne Hathaway,  Kelly Osbourne, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Lupita Nyong’o and Kate Hudson were some of the celebrities who rocked the stiletto nails on the read carpet.

If I were a celebrity, I would choose the nude look for the Oscars event. How about you :)

Thanks for reading, I hope you enoyed!

Hello lovelies!

The Golden Globe awards are a huge event for movie fans and art of cinema lovers but also in terms of fashion and beauty. When it comes to trends I have learnt one thing: if you see it on the red carpet, it is definitely in! So let’s take a look at celebrity nails from the Golden Globes event and spot the trend.

You probably remember my Nail trends for 2014 post series and the 5 posts which defined the key spring/summer nail trends as seen on runway fashion shows in 2013. It was very interesting for me to see which trends in particular celebrities chose to complement their red carpet looks. See what I have found!

Go natural: nude and pastel nails
Looking at the Golden Globes red carpet pictures you cannot miss it: nude is all over the nails :) Natural shades, pale beige, soft pink pastels are the top celebrity choice for this red carpet event. I love the nude look for how easy it is to go with all the looks out there and how suitable it is for a huge range of occasions. Take natural nails to the office, for a weekend walk or to a wedding reception, they will be a perfect fit.

A whole lot of celebrities chose natural nails for the Golden Globes event with Naomi Watts, Mila Kunis, Heidi Klum, Cate Blanchett, Emma Watson, Zooey Deschanel, pregnant Drew Barrimore and Taylor Swift being just a few.

Go precious: metallic nails
Metallic nails are one of the key trends spotted on fashion week runway shows. Precious gold and silver were top  celebrities choice for Golden Globes 2013 event. Kelly Osbourne, Tatiana Maslany, Savannah Guthrie and Kaley Cuoco rocked metallic nailson the red carpet.

Go dark: Black and deep red
Black and deep Bordeaux colors were also a key nail trends on the red carpet. Just to name a few celebrities which picked the dark side choosing either deep red or black: Sandra Bullock, Kate Beckinsale, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Chastain, Zoe Saldana, Leslie Mann, Lizzy Caplan.

I must admit this deep red shade surprised me a little as it was not among the nail trends for 2014. It is a classic choice for polished events such as the Golden Globes so I can understand why many celebrities chose bordeaux for their nails but I find it a little too predictable :)

Hello everyone,

Today I want to share with you another wedding manicure I created. It is a classic French manicure embellished with tiny gold and silver beads. This will be a rather straightforward tutorial regarding the nail design but I will take some time to tell you my favorite and easy way to apply embellishments to nails.

Paint your nails a nude color.
You can play with the color and chose your favorite shade which will complement your skin tone. I chose a classic natural beige shade and applied 3 coats to achieve an allover color instead of a see through look.

Add the French tip.
This nail design is based on the classic French manicure. Add a white tip to all your nails using guiding stripes. We have discussed how you can use DIY guiding stripes made by regular tape but for this manicure I would suggest to get original French tip guides. This is because original French tip guides are slightly curved to match your natural nail shape, plus we will be looking for perfection, it is a special day after all :)

How to add gold and silver nail jewels.
I used tiny nail art beads you can find in nail art supplies shops as well as online. You know I do not use nail art glue to stick embellishments to nails. I also do not use any picking tool, my technique to position the beads is very easy, just read on.

+ put some gold and silver beads on a towel. This way they would stay in place and won’t start rolling everywhere
+ add a thin coat of clear nail polish at the base of your French tip
+ press your finger on the beads, some of them will stay on it
+ press your finger with the beads onto the clear nail polish line

This is a clean and easy way to attach all kinds of tiny embellishment to your nails. With practice it gets easier and you will be able to control the result to perfection.

Last, add a fat top coat.
To seal the design together, apply a gel look top coat. I have tried using thinner formulas, but they do not grasp the little embellishment as well as fat ones.

Products:

White: Essie Blanc
Top coat: Rimmel London 3D Plumping top coat
Beads: gold and silver

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share with you my favorite DIY manicure products. They are easy to make with ordinary household objects, make great substitutes for their drugstore siblings and are free!

DIY cuticle softener
This DIY cuticle softener has proven to give excellent result with its all natural and chemical free ingredients. Get a q-tip and soak it into virgin olive oil. Rub the oil into your cuticles and let it do its magic :) You will get naturally nourished and softened cuticles in minutes! Tip! If you are going to apply nail color after this procedure, make sure that your nail is clean from olive oil. If there is oil residue, your color will peel off.

DIY hand scrub
I love this DIY hand scrub! It smells divine, polishes hands and leaves the skin toned and clean.

DIY hand scrub

DIY hand scrub

Here is what you will need:
1 tbsp ground coffee
1 tbsp fine brown sugar
olive oil*
a jar*

The recipe is as simple as this: mix the coffee and sugar then add some olive oil until you are happy with mixture consistency. Then apply the scrub onto your wet hands, massage gently and rinse off with water. Tip! You can prepare a larger amount of this gentle scrub and store it in a jar. A baby food jar or and old face cream one will do the trick. This mixture contains natural preservative so it will stay fresh for two weeks. I got this idea and photo from a great Tip Junkie post at tipjunkie.com.

DIY stripping brush
Here is an idea how to recycle some old nail polishes into stripping brushes. All you need to do is get the brush of a nail polish you won’t use anymore and trim it down at its base until it gets thinner enough to serve as a stripping brush. Tip! It is best to use the brush from a top coat bottle as it will be easier to clean from nail polish.

DIY tracing strips
Tracing strips are those sticky pieces of paper which help you achieve clean lines and forms for your nail art. Honestly, they are not much different from ordinary tape. You can cut small pieces of tape, apply them to your nails and use them to trace your color. Tip! Touch your skin with the sticky side a few times before applying tape strips to your nails. This will prevent tapes sticking too hard to nail polish and ruining the design when you take them off.

DIY dotting tool
This is the easiest DIY project ever!

DIY dotting tool

Just stick a pin in the rubber back of a pencil. This dotting tool works as great as the one from the store but you can change it as per your preference. Just stick a pin with larger head and you will get a different size tool for your dots. I got this brilliant idea and the beautiful photos from islaay.com.

Hello nail art lovers!

Welcome to the 2014 nail trends series! This is the first post from this sequel thread and we will talk about two key trends for spring summer 2014 as seen on fashion week runway shows: natural nails and white nails.

Natural nails trend
Delicate natural shades are one of the key nail trends for spring 2014. Nails are beige, skin toned, sometimes completely naked with just a top coat to add a little healthy glow. This trend seemed uninteresting to me at first but I must admit it has some generous positives. Natural look is perfect for the office, works for short nails and is great to complement a bolder fashion look.

White and off-white nails trend
White is the star of spring summer 2014 nails. No matter if you like your nails short and round or long and pointy, white will definitely work for you. If you get bored from simple white, you may go for any off-white shade as it was also seen a lot at fashion week runways.

Here is a sneak peek at my next nail trends post: half moon.

Hello nail art lovers!

I sometimes get struck by how some people wear their nails at the office. I am a nail beauty lover and can endure almost anything when it comes to design but seriously, at the office?

I know office dress code differs and what is considered too loud at one place may be just too boring at another. Office atmosphere should be your main guide what to wear to work and look both stylish and professional. Anyway, some things just should not happen :)

What not to wear at work

Chipped nails
Chipped nails are ugly, make your whole outfit look sloppy and say you do not care for details. Yes, you may do overtime, stay late to finish projects or have no time left after housekeeping when you come back home, but still, no polish is better than chipped color. Instead, take your time to remove color and if you do not have time to apply a new coat, leave your nails clean.

Boudoir nails
As beautiful and sultry as they may look, sexy and boudoir nails are not meant for your colleagues to admire. They may leave the impression you are trying to seduce someone rather than make business with them. If you still want to rock lace at work, choose a light color for your base and white for your design to make it subtle and a bit more modest.

Overdone nails
For sure, your nail design can be impressive artwork and even your outfit statement piece. But try not to make it three-dimensional and acrylic and overgrown and gothic at the same time :)

What nails to wear at work:
Go nude
Nude nail polish is a lifesaver in many situations and is a top choice for the office. It looks professional and works with every outfit and moreover, works with all levels of business etiquette. Most brands hold nude shades to complement your natural skin tone and make your hands appear taken care for.

French nails
French manicure is a classic and will always be in style. All you need to do is paint your nails white and you will achieve a classic clean look.

Pastels
Pastel nail color has been in trend for the past several seasons and it seems we will be wearing it in 2014 too. Invest in some light pastel nail colors to alternate them at work and achieve an office friendly fashionable look. Moreover, pastels look great on shorter nails too so if your work involves a lot of typing and you prefers your nails shorter, these colors will do the beauty trick.
