Hello everyone!

I will feel much better if I tell you my bad manicure secrets. I know I will never give them up and this burden of sin will be more bearable if shared :)

SIN 1: File nails in two directions
I know it tends to damage your nails and in the long term makes them split but… It Is much faster to file in both directions. Also, I do not wear my nails too long so split ends are not really a problem.

SIN 2: Skip the base coat
Yes, I don’t apply base and I have never done it. I know it can prevent nails stains, but I believe it takes too much time to apply and wait for yet another coat on your nails to dry.

SIN 3 Not mind nail polish residue
I admit it, most of the times I am OK if a spot or two have been skipped by the nail polish remover. It is not such a big deal, especially if the color I will be using next is dark enough to cover all :)

First, paint some of your nails raspberry red and some of them yellow.
It does not matter which finger will be what color as the beauty of this nail art is in its complexity, not in the single nail.

Second, dot it!
Add black and yellow dots to the red nails and white dots to your yellow ones. To make the dots I used a toothpick but you can choose your tool as per your preference – for sure a pin, a cuticle pusher tip or a dotting tool will do the trick. This is a great tutorial for making dots with a pin head:

Then, add the cartoon.
Simply blob some white onto the nails you have chosen for the cartooned part. Do not worry if your white has rough edges or if it covers any of the dots you made before. It is perfectly OK as you will use some black to outline the edges of the white and add a short phrase that comic books are famous for. I left POW for you ;)

Last, finish off with a clear top coat
Top coat will seal your design and smooth out nail surface which may have turned a little bumpy with so many dots and blobs. Honestly, I did not put any top coat on because my black color seems to smudge…

Hello everyone!

This is my first post in the Manicure Essentials column which is dedicated to vital nail products other than nail color.

I chose to start this column with the nail polish thinner for its many benefits to your nail polish collection. It is a product which revives your older nail polishes and helps prolonge the life of your colors collection. As simple as that sounds, nail thinner will change your view to older bottles and literally save you money.

Manicure Essentials - nail polish thinner tips

Manicure Essentials – nail polish thinner tips

What is it?
It is basically nail polish solvent but not acetone. Acetone is not suitable for nail polish and will ruin your color and its consistency.

How does it work?
You just have to drop a few drops into your polish bottle and shake. Every nail polish thinner drop will change the consistency of the polish so make sure to add one at a time, then shake the bottle and see how the result works for you. You can always add more but cannot take back any, so be careful not to overdo the thinning part :)

My favorite thinner is Orly Nail Lacquer Thinner. It works great will all polishes I have tried it with, it is rather cheap and a little goes a long way. Butyl acetate and ethyl acetate, its only ingredients, are the most commonly used polish solvents and thus it goes well with all kinds of products, no matter the brand.

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share with you a three-step galaxy nails design. It is simple, fast and does not require perfection. This makes it great for when you are in a hurry but still want your nails to impress.

Easy Galaxy nail art and tutorial

Easy galaxy nail design how to

First, paint your nails with two coats of black polish.
You can even apply only one thick coat of color because it will be covered by other colors and this may hide any lighter spots or smudges. I have seen this nail art painted over dark blue and I believe that a dark enough color looks OK, I have not tried it myself though.

Then randomly sponge some white, blue and purple color onto your nails.
Just put some nail polish on a makeup sponge and touch your nails here and there. Really, “random” is the key word for this design. I love using the sponge technique as it is fast and you can do it to both your hands with ease. A downside is that it can be a little messy but practice makes perfect and in a few tries you won’t need to clean too much up. When sponging, start with white on the largest area, than blue, and then purple in smaller areas. You can add some larger white dots to pretend for stars if you wish but this step is not essential to the look.

Last, add a glitter top coat.
At this point you won’t need to add a finishing top coat as the glitter nail polish is a top coat itself. However, if your design has turned out a little bumpier and you want to smooth it out, I would suggest to use a clear top coat as glitter may build up and leave your galaxy way too sparkly : )

Hello nail art lovers!

I have a very fast design for you today which is easy to make and holds a special effect to make it as glamorous as you need it to be! It is a vibrant pink manicure accentuated by a holographic effect zebra detail. This fast nail art can be created in two simple steps.

Easy color block zebra nail design and tutorial

First, paint some of your nails pink and some of them with a silver holographic nail polish.

It is up to you which nails you will leave for the zebra part. Personally, I leave 3 on my left hand and two on my right simply because I am right handed and it is easier to make the zebra stripes on my left nails.

I would not recommend using a top coat to finish this design, especially on top of the holographic color because it tends to ruin the beautiful light catching effect these nail polishes have.

I believe this nail art will look just as great with any other color. I have made it with 3 different shades of pink and I love it! I have a liking for zebra designs in general, so you will see a few on this blog.

Products used:
Pink: Rimmel Salon Pro Kate Moss collection, Jazz Funk, number 701
Silver: Perfect Holographic collection, number H 2
Black for stripes: Golden Rose Painting brush collection, number 106
