Hello nail art lovers!

By now you have probably got that I am a huge fan of nail polish effects. Polishes with added effect such as glitter, sand, etc. are fast and easy to use and give your manicure that extra something without taking too much time. One of my favorite nail polish effect is the one you get with magnetic nail polish. In this post I will give you some tips how to get the most of magnetic nail polishes.

What is magnetic nail polish?
Basically, magnetic nail polish is a nail color mixed with fine metal shavings. These polishes usually come with a magnetic cap. When placed over the freshly applied color, the magnet causes metal shavings to react and form a pattern. The pattern itself is the result we are aiming to get :)

This is a design I achieved with Essie Repstyle magnetic color collection. My color is called Sssssexy. I love the result  and would recommend the line :)

Once you get used to it, it is fairly simple to use magnetic nail polishes. I will give you the general steps + some extra advice that will give you the best result, I promise!

First, apply a thin coat of the formula on your bare nails.
The first coat you apply should be thin and neat. Take some time to be precise with this step, the outcome depends on the application of your first coat. Tip! Do not use a base coat to prep your nails for magnetic polish as this may make your pattern look patchy.

Second, form the pattern with the magnet.
You should form the pattern one nail at a time! Apply a thick coat on the nail and immediately place the magnet over it. You should stay one mm away from the nail so the magnet won’t touch it and ruin the freshly applied polish. Wait for 10 seconds and Voila! now you have a beautiful patterned design!

Here are some additional tips to get the most out of magnetic formulas:
TIP 1: Shake well before use. Metal shavings are heavier than the nail polish formula and tend to gather at the bottom of the polish bottle. Shaking it up will distribute the metal evenly and get you a better result.
TIP 2: Play with the magnet until you get your favorite outcome. You will notice how changing the magnet position over your nail will give you a different design. Take some time to see what works best for your nails length, shape or your mood.
TIP 3: Do not load on polish formula. When you add your second coat, make it thick but clean. It should not float around your nail. Loaded nail polish may smudge the pattern and will surely take longer to dry.
TIP 4: Start over if you ruin a nail. It will be neater and quicker to start over that try to add more and more polish. Adding polish will lead to a mess rather than a design.
TIP 5: Add a top coat. To create a beautiful design with metallic nail polish you need only two coats of the formula. But after you use the magnet and it causes the metal shavings to gather at one place, this will leave certain areas with even less than two coats of polish. This will make your design to fade and chip easily. So, add your favorite top coat on top to get the maximum impact.

Hello everyone!

I had so much fun creating my celebrity stiletto nails post that I could not help making another one! So welcome to another post dedicated to Stiletto nails and the way the famous wear them! I have created two inspirational galleries featuring the manicure of two other singers whose music I love: Lana Del Rey and Adele.

Lana wears her stiletto nails long and pointy. She prefers classic red shades, deep bordeaux or a more natural look with beige and skin tone colors. Having said that, you most probably won’t see her with colorful nail art decoration. I love how her manicure looks and lives up to what people say: style is always in trend!

Adele is another singer who prefers the stiletto nail shape. Her manicure is long and noticeable, usually a pop of an interesting shade contrasts her most preferred cloths color: black. Adele’s overall look makes the stiletto shape seem a bit more sophisticated and feminine, I love it!

Hello everyone!

Today’s post is dedicated to Stiletto nails. They are trendy, they are exquisite, they are a true statement piece in your look. Celebrities love this long and pointy nail look and this of course made it really popular in the last few years.

The absolute trend setter of stiletto nails is undoubtedly Rihanna. This is her favorite manicure look since 2011 and she shows off her perfect claws in various occasions. Rihanna stiletto nails are a signature item of her celebrity image. Look at some pointy beauties which have been circulating the internet for a while.

Rita Ora is another music diva who loves her stiletto nail look. Her nails are not too pointy but a little rounded. This is still a great look plus she often has some interesting nail art to decorate her manicure. I love how fun her nail designs look.

I will be posting another portion of celebrity stiletto nails soon, so stay tuned!

First, paint some of your nails a natural shade and some of them white.
I chose to place the design on both ring fingers as well as on my right thumb. Ring finger will be shown off with your new wedding ring, when holding the bouquet and thumb will show when you give your signature at the ceremony. My water decal is a beautiful rose on a white base, so I painted these three fingers white. Paint all other fingers a natural color for a romantic look. This nail art looks best if your natural color is thick and not sheer. Applying more coats will make it look thicker and smoother. I love how the natural shade complements the roses and makes this design look completed.

Then, place water decals on your white nails.
Check out my tutorial to see how to create water decals nail art.

Last, seal your design with top coat.
With water decals I prefer using a long lasting top coat. This gives you some extra insurance that design will stay intact after days, easily more than a week.

Hello everyone!

Today I want to give some tips on how to use water decals for easy and lasting manicure.

First, color your nails.
Water decals stick best on painted nails. Tip! If you are using whole nail water decals, paint your nail in a color as close to the nail decal shade as possible. This way if there is some inconsistency between the decal shape and your nails it won’t show too much.

Second, soak the decal into water.
Most decals take 10 to 20 seconds to get saturated with the right amount of water. You are aiming to get the decal off its base with a gentle touch. If it comes off easily, you are ready to proceed. If it is hard to get the decal off, soak it in water for 5 to 10 more seconds. Tip! Do not try to pull the decal because this will most probably tear it and ruin the design.

Then, place the decal onto your nail.
By this time decal should be sticky and easy to position onto your nail. Try to get it as close to cuticles as possible and gently push the design onto your nail. Do not worry if you have too much excess around your nails, decals are made huge so that they can fit all nail lengths and widths. Take a fine file and gently file off the excess, it should come off easily without any pressure and with a few touches.

Last, seal your design with top coat.
Last phase is to put your long lasting top coat on. Make sure to cover areas on the sides of your nail, close to the cuticles and the very nail tips. This will ensure that your manicure will last. Nail decals do not wear off, do not fade and do not chip. I have made an experiment to wear the same decal for 2 weeks, just adding a n extra top coat every few days.

This is a nail design I made for this tutorial. I love to use a contrasting color for my main manicure color, I think decals are most noticeable and have a maximum impact this way.

Hello nail art lovers!

Welcome back to the 2014 nail trends series! In the last post we will talk about three spring summer 2014 nail trends as seen on fashion week runway shows. Read on!

Playful nail art trend
Here they are, in a sea of natural shades, whites and pale pastels, playful nails are definitely a trend for spring summer 2014 season. All kinds of shades, color and embellishments are allowed when creating playful nail decoration. You may go for flowers, marble nails, abstract color combinations and it is all a key trend.

Black nails
Black nails are seen in a lot of runway shows from fashion week. They are dark, rebellious and for sure a breath of fresh air among all spring color trends. You can use black as a base color to combine with other trends and make a manicure statement.

Bright color trend
A pop of color is a trend we have been enjoying for several seasons in a row. For spring/summer 2014 a bold color in classical application is still a strong trend. The key for maximum impact is to choose a unique and unexpected color and let it do the fashion talk.

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the fourth post from the S/S 2014 nail trends thread. Today we will admire two nail trends for the upcoming 2014 as seen on fashion week runway shows: stripes and jewels.

Stripes nail trend
We will have a lot of stripes for spring summer 2014 season. You may go for a single line or multiple stripes, it does not matter which, it will be 100% fashionable. You can have even more fun mixing the nail trends and decorate your nails with metallic lines.

Jewels on nails trend
I must admit I have always been a fan of rhinestones on nails as jewel decoration literally transforms nails from nails to Wow! nails. It may seem a little impractical to have three dimensional jewels on but the look of your manicure will be totally worth it! On fashion week runway shows jewels appear in combination with natural base colors and have the maximum impact.

Here is a sneak peek at my next nail trends post: playful nails.
