Hello nail art lovers!

I love the half moon nail trend for 2014! I tried it recently and I want to show you how it turned out, plus will give you some tips from what I have learnt :)

My half moon interpretation is a bright color block design combining orange and pink. I used guiding stripes to get the perfect half moon shape. So here is how it goes!

First, paint your nails orange on one hand and pink on the other.
I thought it would be fun to have an orange base for one hand and a pink one for the other and I really like the pop art effect this design has. Tip! When you choose your colors make sure they are thick and opaque formulas. This way it will be easy to add the second color on top of the base one without having to layer too much nail polish to cover it.

Then, add the half moon.
Guiding stripes may help you get a good half moon shape. Tip! After you have applied your second color, remove the stripe while nail polish is still wet so that the stripe will not leave any harsh edges.

I think that if you choose a sheer base, half moon can be added free handedly and guides are not obligatory to get a beautiful result. If you are able to see your natural half moon it will be easier to trace it with the second color.

Last, seal nail design with a top coat.
The half moon nail art is a layered design and as all layered nail designs it may have some nail polish bumps to conceal. Use a fat top coat for this manicure and this will smooth off any harsh edges left by the guiding stripes.
