Hello lovelies!

Today I want to tell you about an interesting nail polish. Versatile, two-faced and alluring, OPI Stay the Night is a gem which should not be missed. It was released for the spring 2013 season as a result of the brand’s colaboration with Mariah Carey and if you have not stumbled upon it so far, stay with me for a thorough review and some photos to speak better than words.

Color
OPI Stay The Night is a hot pink glitter in a black base.  Pink particles are small and fine, same color and size. It looks jelly like in the bottle but gives full opaque coverage in two coats.

Formula and application
OPI Stay The Night is designed as a liquid sand formula which means it dries to a textured look. This nail polish gives a very interesting effect as the base dries matte but the glitter keeps shining. Textured nail polishes are meant to be left without a top coat so with two layers your OPI Stay the Night will be matte black texture, not too rough but with a visible three-dimensional effect. Application may be a little tricky as formula is on the thick side and the nail polish brush is rather large.

Textured polishes are a bit difficult to identify while in the bottle and using a liquid sand for the first time may be a surprise. I must admit that when I had my first layer of OPI Stay The Night on I thought this was the ugliest see through brownish thing I had ever seen. If you get the same first impression, please wait until you have the second layer on, it changes everything for the better.

Here is a photo of my nails with two coats of OPI Stay The Night without any top coat.

I already mentioned the thick formula so you may have guessed it needs a bit of extra time to dry. Tip! This is absolutely right and my tip would be to invest some time to wait in between layers rather than top layers up and wait forever for the polish to dry. Personally, I prefer OPI Stay The Night with top coat on.

Adding a top coat transforms this textured formula to a deep magical color combination which stole my heart the moment I saw it. Tip! To smooth the texture, add a fat coat of clear nail polish and then a fast drying top coat to speed the drying process up. Here is a photo of two OPI Stay The Night coats with the addition of two layers of clear top coat.

I am including a comparison photo to help illustrate  how this nail polish transforms when you add a top coat to it.

Wear
OPI Stay The Night wears in a different way depending on whether you have a top coat on. Without the top coat you will enjoy about two days of perfect wear. I find this logical as you actually have only two nail polish coats without anything in addition to protect the nail polish and seal the color.

With a top coat OPI Stay The Night wears great for four days which is OK for a dark nail polish. Top coat will prevent color from fading and tips from chips so this is definitely the option I go for.

I find this textured formula easy to remove. You do not need any special procedure for the glitter to come off but I do suggest taking some time to soak the nail into nail polish remover. Tip! Put some nail polish remover on a cotton pad, press it onto your nail and count to ten. These seconds will be enough to soften the base color and give glitter a looser base to hold to. It will make it easier to remove.

Price and availability
OPI Stay The Night is not part of some limited edition special occasion collection so you may find it for a regular OPI product price. It is available at many online retail stores and I am pretty sure you have a good chance to find it in major beauty stores which stock OPI nail polish range.

My Verdict
OPI Stay The Night is a pain to work with but it has this unique dual character which will make me love it forever. Matte and shine together, textured and smooth at the same time all depending on your wish, it is worth the patience to get it right.

So what do you think of this one, does it inspire you in any way?

Hello nail art lovers!

When I am in the mood of a cute and girly nail design I usually opt for polka dots. They are fast and easy to make and they always make me smile when I look at my nails. Combined with pastel colors, they are just perfection for the blooming spring around (don’t be too hard for me for exploiting my pastel shades so much, they are so adorable).

So this will be a super straightforward nail art tutorial for how to get mix and match polka dots nails art with pastel colors. I just want to say these nails were super difficult to photograph due to the close color shades and in person your eyes will have much more contrast than the camera has shown.

Pastels and polka dots nails

Pastels and polka dots nails

Pastels and polka dots nails

First, paint some of your nails pastel pink and some of them pastel lilac color
For this nail design I chose Models Own Strawberry Tart for all fingers and Models Own Grape Juice for my ring fingers. You can choose any shades of your liking but to get this designs effect I suggest the colors be rather close hues.

Add polka dots to all nails
To make your nails even cuter, add polka dots. Use pink for your lilac nails and lilac for your pink ones. I think polka dots lo0k best when they are not too close to each other so I applied three to four dots per row. You can you a regular bobby pin of you do not have one of those special dotting tools. I used a regular pin’s head.

At this point your girly nail design is done so you may choose to leave it that way. If you decide to opt for a top coat have in mind that a top coat will make the colors merge a bit more and thus make them look less contrasting. I am telling just in case you chose colors which are too close to each other and my end up looking too much alike.

To add up, I think this manicure will look great with Models Own Blueberry Muffin and Models Own Apple pie. They are still pastel shades of the Models Own Fruit Pastel collection and are close enough to give you a similar effect.

Hello nail art lovers!

Today I want to share with you the easiest nail art I opt for when I am out of free time but still want a beautiful nail design. This is a simple principle which can be followed with various nail polish shades and effects and will still give you that same glam effect.

Simple nail design principle which always works
For this fast and easy nail design principle you will need a nail polish with some kind of effect added to it. This may be glitter, color particles, holo flakes, etc. You will also need a nail shade which matches your first nail polish added color. For example if you put white nail polish with gold flakes on 4 nails and a gold full color on your last nail, you will have a simple nail art design which always works!

BeFunky_gold polka dots.jpg

This is how I recreated this simple nail art principle a few days ago when I was going on a planned event but was running out of time for manicure.

This is OPI Wonderous Star on 4 nails and a black color on my ring finger. I love how this nail design turned out and will tell you some more about the golden beauty featured in it.

OPI Wondrous Star manicure

OPI Wonderous Star review
OPI Wonderous star was released in 2013 for the upcoming Christmas Holiday season. It is part of the collection OPI launched in collaboration with Mariah Carey that year. OPI Wonderous Star is a platinum silver fine glitter in a clear base, with hexagonal shaped black flakes added. The formula is rather thin in comparison with the usual glitter nail polish. It is very easy to control how much hexagonal effects you get on nails, formula is buildable and in two coats it will leave you with this gorgeous platinum silver color with some black accents here and there. OPI Wonderous start dries fast so you should not worry if you wish to layer more coats of it but for my nail design I only needed two.

OPI Wonderous Star will make a perfect top coat to add some shine to different nail colors. I have tried over darks such as black and grey and also lights such as white and nude shades and it has worked great on every base so far. For the mani below I applied it over Zoya Chantal.

I will be showing more nail designs featuring my simple ad easy nail art rule I shared with you in this post. I will also show you more of OPI Holiday Season 2013 nail polishes soon so stay tuned!

Hello lovelies!

With so much innocent white, pretty pastels and natural shades going on at nailcentric.net lately I felt like going on the dark side for a change. Today I want to show you an inspiring formula I recently got on a whim. This is my new  Kleancolor glitter beauty called Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black.

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black in bottle

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black in bottle

Packaging
Chunky Holo Black is my first Kleancolor nail polish. It comes in a bulky nail polish bottle with a good 15ml amount of product. I must admit I find the cap a little strange but besides this personal remark I find the bottle easy to hold, store and enjoy. I love how Chunky Holo Black shows into the bottle, it catches light in the most beautiful way and is a jewel itself.

Formula and Application
It is a bit difficult for me to describe what Chunky Holo Black is… I see it as a chunky glitter in a grayish jelly base. Kleancolor call it holo but I would say glitter particles are too big to be qualified as a classic holographic formula. Formula is easy to work with mostly because base is stacked up with glitter so you may control how much effect you want where. Chunky Holo Black dried quickly, I find this a pleasant surprise because sometimes in my tries to get more glitter on nails I tend to get too much base too which eventually leads to slow drying process. I am very happy with how quick this formula sets.

Color
Chunky Holo Black is a glitter magic in a bottle and it gives a very unique effect. I absolutely love it as it is nail art itself and gives you all those “How did you do that?” questions without much effort.

As glitter comes in a sheer gray base, I strongly suggest you use this nail polish on a dark opaque base. Not only this would make glitter pop but also I do not think it turns out good on a light base. Before I put this review up I made an experiment with different base color and I think it works very bad on its own, with white and with a natural color as a base. I am ok with this as I expected the result. After all Chunky Holo Black is a glitter effect in a jelly formula so it is meant to complement other colors and destined to be ugly on its own :)

Wear
Chuky Holo Black wears great in time. I had it on for 4 full days which is great for me. I think laying it on a color base helps the nail polish combination stay longer because you end up adding at least 3 layers of formula on your nails (one/two base layers + one/two Chunky Holo Black layers) and this is if you choose not to add a top coat.

Price and availability
A downside to Kleancolor nail polishes in general is that they are very difficult to find in Euroope. Being a US brand, Kleancolor have best availability and prices in the United States and you need to do a bit more work to find them somewhere else. Of course you can always look through your trusted online sellers and check if they stock Kleancolor products.

My Verdict
I find Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black a very unique and rare formula. I love how it pairs with dark base colors, the result is amazing, I keep staring at my nails all the time! It comes for a low price and I immediately looked for the rest nail polishes of the collection. Unfortunately, I won’t be bying them as they are difficult to find in Europe.

Hello lovelies!

If I was asked to pick one single nail color for being most versatile, I would definitely say white. White nail polish is great for summer and winter, it makes the perfect canvas for a number of nail art techniques and designs and to add up, it is super trendy for 2014. Unfortunately, it is popular for being difficult to work with. Those of you who have been through the white polish experience know the usual formula is rather thick, tends to streak, dries slowly and for all of the above is very easy to get on your nerves. Stay with me for my tips how to make white nail polish work.

How to make white nail polish work

How to make white nail polish work

TIP 1: Invest in a good formula
If you are going to pick a white nail polish, you have good chances to skip some of its flaws with getting it from a good brand. I know white seems too plain a color to invest in time for reading reviews and money for getting a high end one but trust me, this may change your attitude to white forever. Most of the major brands have a variety of white formulas so know what you need, do a little reading and enjoy the difference :)

TIP2: Do not skip the base coat
Taking a few extra minutes to apply your base coat will help even color application a lot. Streaking should not be such a problem if your nail has been evened out and prepped for color application.

TIP 3: Work with thin coats
White polishes are on the thicker side and usually streak. I know you may want to speed things up and give your nails a couple of nice thick coats in your hope to avoid streaking and get beautiful coverage faster. Unfortunately, this approach will most probably leave you with a never drying bubbly thick mess on your nails and you will eventually have to start everything over. So less is more in this scenario. After you have applied your base coat, start adding thin layers of nail polish until you get the coverage you need.

TIP 4: Thin if you have to
If you feel your white color is too thick to control well, then I suggest you add a few drops of nail polish thinner to the formula. Start with adding little because you can always add more later but you cannot take any away.

TIP5: Wait for layers to dry
It is very important to wait for each layer to dry completely before you add more color. As white is usually used as a base color for various nail art techniques, you are most likely to add something on your last white layer so it should be dry. If not, you are risking smudges and bubbles and you know this will ruin your manicure.

My white nail polish routine
With practice I have learnt what works best for me and have been following the same nail polish application steps when it comes to white. So my routine is: a base, a thin white layer, a second thin white layer, a fast drying top coat. The white I am currently using and getting out of is Essie Blanc and my fast dry top coat is Essie Good to Go. Check my thought on Essie Good to Go top coat if it sparks your interest.

Do you have more secrets to apply white nail polish and get the most of it?

Hello nail art lovers!

Today I want to show you a super cute and super trendy nail art with pastel colors over a white base. The biggest pros of this nail design is that it is fast and easy to make and also fashionable for spring 2014, but unfortunately it can be a bit messy. Anyways, stay with me for a tutorial how to create pastel marble nails using the sponging technique.

There is no doubt white nails and pastel colors are huge nail trends for 2014 and this marble nail art is a fun way to mix them. You know I love the sponging technique for it does not have to be perfect and its charm is hidden in the random color application. Here are some of my other nail designs created using the sponging technique: Galaxy nails and some more Galaxy nails :)

Here I how to get these pastel marble nails.

Pastel color no water marble nails tutorial

First, paint your nails white
A white base is great for when you will be transferring color with a sponge as it helps colors pop. A thing about the sponging technique is that a great part of your nail color is absorbed my the makeup sponge and is therefore not transferred to your nail. If you want to avoid repeating the sponging process several times it would be great to start off white and this way ensure colors will show the way they are and won’t wash out. For this tutorial I used Essie Blanc.

Then, transfer pastel colors onto your nails using a makeup sponge
To revise, just dab some of your nail color onto the makeup sponge and press the sponge onto your nail several times. Tip! Use a makeup sponge because it has a finer texture and will make your colors look well blended.

I used my Models Own Fruit Pastel colors, alternating their position to achieve a different pattern. You can see my post for this collection here. I love when you do not have to be precise for certain nail design as this saves time and makes each nail unique.

Last, add a top coat
If the sponging technique left your nails look a little patchy, just add a good layer of top coat. You will see how colors somehow merge even more at this step and your nail design looks very well blended. For this manicure I used Essie Good to Go fast drying top coat because the designs with several color layers usually need more time to dry.

Hello lovelies!

I am so excited to tell you about my new natural colors palette! I got three shades of Zoya Naturel spring 2014 nail polish range and have for you some swatches and thoughts on the collection.

Zoya Naturel collection features six natural nail colors. I would say they are not ‘natural’ in the way of ‘nude’ but more like in the way of complementing complexion and creating a natural as the opposite of artificial look. Not sure if this makes much sense so I got some photos which I hope will make the whole idea clear.

Zoya Naturel spring 2014 collection

Zoya Naturel spring 2014 collection

Packaging
Zoya Naturel spring 2014 nail colors of come in classic Zoya nail polish bottles. Bottles are on the larger side as you get 15ml of nail polish, they have a black plastic cap. I find the package stylish and bottles easy to hold.

Formula and Application
Zoya nail polishes are free of Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin & Camphor, those big five chemicals you do not want on your nails. All Zoya Naturel nail polishes are opaque crèmes. Formula is rather thin but very pigmented so you get full coverage in two thin coats. The brush is flexible enough and incredibly easy to control. These colors have a glossy finish and would not require a top coat if its sole purpose is to add shine to your manicure. I think this collection would make my ultimate office nail wear as it is so fast and easy to get your nails done using these polishes.

Colors
All colors from the Naturel 2014 aim to complement different skin tones and provide a natural look. You have them in six shades named after ladies. Zoya Chantal, Zoya Taylor and Zoya Rue are the nude like shades of the range; Zoya Brigitte, Zoya Odette and Zoya Normani have a purplish hue to them.

I think these are great to wear at the office, a business occasion or a formal event as they are delicate yet feminine enough to add some glamour to your look without catching too much attention when you might not want it.

The ones I got and I believe go best with my complexion are:

Zoya Chantal is a nude beige and is a classic skin tone shade. It is the perfect nude nail color if you, like me have a relatively light skin with yellow undertone.

Zoya Brigitte is a sort of a mauve shade with a strong pink hue. I find this shade to  work great with a larger range of skin tones. It builds super easy and leaves you with a refined pink without the pink shade, ideal for business meetings.

Zoya Normani is a taupe crème with a delicate purple vibe. It is cool toned and probably my favorite of the whole range. I love cool taupe shades and this one is rather unique for its purple add on.

Wear
These polishes wear great, do not fade, have a glossy finish and you count on at least three days without additional layers and up to a whole work week with a base and top coat.

Price and availability
Zoya nail polishes are on the pricier side and personally I prefer to get them with some kind of promotion. You can get them by different retailer online and offline, I prefer to get mine through official Zoya website. This collection is already available for purchase.

My verdict
I am simply in love with this range. Colors are wearable and suit a lot of occasions. Nail polish formula is safe and easy to apply. These polishes save time for they build to full color with a glossy finish in only two coats. The collection is a bit pricey but if you are lucky to get some discount or find a promotion, definitely go for it!
