Hello lovelies!

I know how you love painting your nails! It is a fun and creative hobby on the cheaper beauty hobbies side so how can you blame a girl for nail polish addiction :) Truth is sometimes your nails want to do it. Read on for my three signs that you should give your nails a break from your hobby for a while and put more effort in nail care.

Give your nails a break

Give your nails a break

SIGN 1:  Your nails are yellow
Staining is a common problem when using nail polish too often. Darker polishes that you may use to hide the problem seem to make it even worse for their highly pigmented formula. You will hear that nail polish base can prevent stains from appearing but actually I do not agree. My experience with nail polish tells me that sometimes you just have to pay more attention to care rather than to looks. Gently buff nails, nourish them with your favorite product and wear a clear coat, your nails will soon start to look better.

SIGN 2: Your upper nails peel off from their base
This is my worst nightmare as all you can do to get the nail back in its beautiful shape is wait for it to grow back. This takes time and is hard as the nail gets thinner and brittle because you can easily chip it with your daily chores. Filing nails in both directions with an emery board or a metallic file is the most common reason for this issue. I find filing in one direction too time consuming so I went for a glass nail file which works great any way you use it on your nails, I recommend.

SIGN 3: Your cuticles are rough and dry
Using nail polish a lot means also using nail polish remover a lot. Some nail polishes require a soaking nail polish remover procedure to get off your nails. This means your cuticles may have been exposed to nail polish remover chemical too much and/or too often. This dries out the skin around your nails making it look rough and unappealing. To make things better try not to soak it in nail polish remover and make sure you moisturize well.

So girls, do not pass these signs by and give your nails some time off the nail polish chemicals. It is worth and for the better.

Hello lovelies!

Happy Valentine’s day, love and be loved!

I cannot believe I got my third Liebster award nomination! I was given this honor by the lovely Mija from According to a Blonde blog. Huge thanks, Mija ♥

Liebster award

Liebster award

I love the Liebster award idea as it helps promote young blogs with less than 200 Bloglovin’ followers. I will copy the rules from my previous post to get the idea and the way it works clear.

So how does it work?
1. You must link back to the person who nominated you and answer the 11 questions they asked you with their nomination.
2. You must pick 11 nominees yourself and tell them they have been nominated. You cannot pick the person who nominated you.
3. You must ask your nominees 11 questions of your choice

My answers to Mija’s questions

1. What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I love the freedom to share when inspiration is there.

2.Truth or dare. What’s your pick?
I’d say truth. I am not too much of a dare person.

3.Heels or flats?
Flats, since you did not give the wedges option :)

4. If you could bring on a desert island 5 things from your make up bag what would they be
Five is a very generous number, I can get everything I use for my usual beauty look. Definitely a face moisturizer, a natural eye shadow palette, a mascara, a nude lipstick and some makeup remover tissues.

5. What’s your dream job?
A song dubbing artist for Disney movies.

6. City you would love to live in?
I do not know, maybe some European capital city, let’s say Wien for its cultural heritage and its flawlessly designed contemporary features.

7. Dogs or cats?
It has always been dogs :)

8. Your life motto.
Enjoy life!

9. Some piece from your wardrobe that you paid a lot, but you don’t regret it.
My watch cost me a fortune but I absolutely love it!

10.Your favourite holiday destination.
The beach.
11. Favourite book.
Approximately 30% of the books I read thrill me enough to remember. They must be brilliant so I just do not have one single favorite.

My questions to nominees

  1. Why did you start blogging?
  2. What is your inspiration source?
  3. If you had to change your blog name, how would you call it?
  4. Which is your favorite spring 2014 fashion trend?
  5. What is your favorite beauty look?
  6. Fashion or beauty?
  7. What do you spend most money on?
  8. What is the beauty product you cannot live without?
  9. What is in your handbag right now?
  10. Do you have a hobby other than blogging?
  11. Do you have a pick-me-up positive thought or quote?

It was great fun to take part of the lovely Liebster award initiative for the third time and help out some great young blogs to get more publicity.

Hello lovelies!

Valentine’s Day is approaching! I am always happy on Valentine’s day because it reminds me that no matter if your are single or taken, love is all around. You can find it in your dearest friendships, your adoring dog’s eyes, in the morning air, your spouse embrace, your sibling’s smile. Special day wishes are not my strongest side so I will just wish for you to love and be loved ♥

I chose black for my Valentine’s day manicure because I had chosen stones and pearls previously and I thought they would look great on a black canvas. And they do, needless to say much better in person than in pictures.

Valentine's Day nail design with jewels

Valentine’s Day nail design with jewels

This design how to is pretty obvious, just paint your nails and embellish them with jewels to add luxury to your nail design. Jewels and stones on nails are a little difficult to wear as your nails will eventually start falling apart… I go t invited to take part in Brilliant Earth’s Create a Little Love campaign and creatively spell out the word LOVE so that was my additional inspiration to use stones. Tip! Do not use real diamonds on nails as you are most likely to lose them :)

Spread the love and thanks for reading!

Hello nail art lovers!

You have been witnessing my half moon fever for a while. I love the half moon trend for spring 2014 and have already shown you my pink and orange color block design as well my half moon wedding nails idea. Half moon nail design is a good break from the all over color but still not too complicated to make and thus to fit the lifestyle of an active girl with many things to do.

Today I want to share with you my blue and mint half moon nail design. I think half moon nails look great in a contrasting color combination so I went for another color block. This time I used a mat top coat and I really love the result. I must admit that a fat top coat blends the design a bit better but if you need a change, go ahead and grab your mat top coat!

I will not go into any details how I exactly made the nails as I have used the same technique as in my red and orange color block tutorial linked above. Just change the colors to your liking and mat those nails all over :)

Hello nail art lovers!

With Valentine’s day approaching, love is in the air! You get ideas for everything on Valentine’s day: outfits, makeup, nails, music, bedroom furniture and even pets clothes… I will be another one to give you a manicure idea. It is a nail design a little out of the classic pink/red Valentine’s day romance, but still features a heart :) I figured since it’s Valentine’s day, I could do something a little more complicated, it took me almost an hour from start to end but I love the result. Here is how to create these Valentine’s day gradient heart nails tutorial.

First, paint your nails white.
I find all gradients turn out best on a white base. Even if your nail design does not have white in it, a white base will help the colors pop and make them look more vibrant. Sometimes colors in gradient nail art may appear blunt because some of the formula will stay your nails and the makeup sponge you are using to transfer color to nails. I used my Essie Blanc for these nails.

Then add a gradient nail effect.
For this Valentine’s day nail art I used two shades of turquoise and the good old makeup sponge. I have shown you manicures using the sponging technique before, but this time it will be a little different as we are aiming at a gradient effect. Put a stripe of your white nail polish, then your light turquoise and then your dark one on a makeup sponge. Instead of adding your colors one straight after the other, make them overlap a little on the makeup sponge. Tip! Always start by adding the lightest color first. This way, when you slightly overlap the colors, they will blend naturally on the sponge and help you get your gradient nail effect.

Transfer the colors from the sponge to your nails by touching your white base with it leaving your ring fingers white. Tip! Put some clear tape around your nails as this technique may be a bit too messy and you will end up spending more time to clean up than to create the nail design.

Then, add the heart.
To add the beautiful gradient heart to your nail design you will need some regular tape. Cut a 1 inch piece of tape. Fold it in half and cut a leaf shape into it at the folded end. When you unfold the tape your leaf cut will turn into a heart shape whole. You will use it as a model.

Stick your DIY heart model to the ring finger and add the same gradient to it with a makeup sponge and the colors you previously used. Tip! Touch your skin with the sticky part of the tape a few times. This will make the tape less sticky and will prevent it ruining your base when you take the tape off your nails. Tip! Remove the tape while nail polish is still wet. This way it will not leave a harsh mark on your design.

Add a fat top coat.
At this point your Valentine’s day heart  nail art may look patchy and uneven, this usually happens when you are using a sponge. To even out the nail design and to make it appear smoother, add a fat top coat. You will see how your gradient blends beneath a good coat of fat top nail polish.

Thanks for reading, have the most wonderful Valentine’s day and see you soon!

First, paint your nails pink.
This manicure needs a vibrant deep pink shade for a base. You can see that Katy Perry nails are not a true red shade but sort of a deep pink with a red undertone color. I figured Covergirl Outlast nail polish in Reliable Red would fit the design.

Then, add a soft pink gradient.
To add the soft pink color to my nails I used the good old makeup sponge. I have featured the sponging technique in some of my previous posts. You can take a look at my Galaxy nails and Galaxy nails tips for nail designs, tutorials and tips featuring the sponging technique.

For this tiger nail design you need to add some pale pink color to a makeup sponge and transfer the nail polish onto the sides of your nails. I used Covergirl Outlast Constant Candy which turned a little whiter than I planned, but I still love the result. You aim to cover one side of your nail and make sure to leave some of it clear so that the deep pink shade will be visible. At this point we are not aiming at a perfect gradient because tiger stripes will steal the show from the base anyways :)

Then, add tiger stripes.
Tiger stripes are easy to add free handedly with a striping brush. I used the brush which comes with a black nail art color and is specifically designed for adding detail but you can use a DIY striping brush as in my free manicure products post. Tip! Make tiger stripes thicker at the beginning and thinner at the end. This will help mimic the animal skin better and will avoid your tiger look too much like a zebra :)

Last, add a fat top coat.
The sponging technique as well as the tiger detail may make this nail art look a little patchy. Use a fat gel look top coat to blend the design together and smooth away any bumps and lumps that may have appeared.

Voila! You got that wild Katy Perry tiger manicure!
